I’m fortunate; I’ve benefited from racial and economic privilege and now, as a transman, male privilege. There are many reasons why I’m driven to do racial equity and social justice work, not the least among them is the belief that the accident of my birth should not lead to the level of privilege that I enjoy. Everyone deserves the resources that they need to live happy, healthy lives and fulfill their potential. I believe education, especially higher education, can help that happen but only if we interrogate the systemic barriers that prevent learners from succeeding.
