Maisha Riddlesprigger

Maisha Riddlesprigger began her career in education as an elementary and high school special education aide while in college. Ms. Riddlesprigger's passion for education developed in college as she began studying the educational and economic systems of third world countries at the University of West Indies in Bridgetown, Barbados. After college she began her teaching career in Compton, CA as a 5th grade teacher. After her tenure as a teacher in Compton, CA she worked as a professional development program manager with The New Teacher Project in Los Angeles Unified School District, managing a million dollar professional development budget, while working part time as an adjunct professor at Pepperdine University. Prior to coming to DC Public Schools in 2009 (as assistant principal) she served as the District Recruitment Services Coordinator in Compton, CA, where she worked to recruit top teacher talent for Compton Unified School District. As principal of two different DC Public Schools in Wards 7 and 8 since 2010, she has consistently focused on improving student achievement, mental health support, and student outcomes. In her three years as principal at Davis ES in Ward 7, she doubled proficiency rates in ELA and math and has doubled ELA and almost tripled math proficiency rates at Ketcham ES in Ward 8.
