TaMikka Sykes

TaMikka Sykes is an elementary school principal at Amidon-Bowen ES, District of Columbia Public Schools. Prior to joining DCPS in June of 2016, TaMikka was founding principal at LEARN Charter School network in Chicago, IL. Before becoming an assistant principal, she taught first, second, third and fourth grade. As a teacher, she has track record of success increasing student achievement. Her interests include strengthening school and student culture through teacher leadership; cultivating collaboration and problem-solving within school-based teams; and building adult capacity for using social and emotional learning as a lever for engaging and motivating struggling students. Before moving to Chicago, she taught in both urban public and charter school settings in Compton, CA, and Washington, D.C. In her spare time, TaMikka enjoys spending time with her friends and family.
