Michael Peña
Michael Peña is a husband and parent of three children. He spent 15 years in the Seattle area as a science teacher where he became involved as a leader in the push to close educational inequities resulting from systemic racism and marginalization. After leaving the classroom, he accepted a position as Director in the Center for Racial, Social, & Economic Justice with the Washington Education Association where he focuses on social justice unionism, organizational design, and change management through an equity-based perspective.
Michael currently sits on OSPI’s Equal Opportunity Gap Oversight and Accountability Committee which focuses on institutional and systemic inequities in Washington State’s public schools and has recently joined the board of JustLead Washington, a network of community leaders working toward equity and justice throughout the state.
