Erica Coates

Erica E. Coates, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Georgetown University School of Medicine where she leads the Family Wellbeing Program (a multidisciplinary, comprehensive mental health center) at Educare and AppleTree. Dr. Coates received her doctoral degree in clinical child psychology from the University of South Florida and received specialized training in mood, anxiety, and trauma-informed family treatment at the APA-accredited VA Maryland Health Care System/University of Maryland School of Medicine Consortium. Dr. Coates was a Presidential Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Family Science within the School of Public Health at the University of Maryland, College Park. Dr. Coates has experience treating socioeconomically diverse children and families in a variety of  settings including schools, university medical clinics, inpatient facilities, and community health clinics. She has  particular interest in family factors (e.g., coparenting, parenting, parent-child relationships, and parental mental  health) in the treatment of child and adolescent mental health problems. She has published articles on the role  of parental involvement and coparenting in child development, and her research has been supported by the  National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, the American Psychological Association, and the  American Psychological Foundation.
