Mike Lamb

Mike joined DCPS in 2021 as Deputy Chief, Science of Learning and Development to help change the odds for the district’s students. At DCPS, he leads DCPS Becoming the district's transformation effort to become a whole-child centered, anti-racist school system. From 2013 to 2020, Mike translated the science of learning and development as Turnaround for Children’s Vice President, Partner Impact/Executive Director Washington, D.C., oversaw the management of the DCPS school-based team and central office support, and served on the organization's leadership team. During Mike's time at Turnaround, he developed the organization's partnership engagement strategy that led to sixfold increase in school partnerships, school and district leader training series for all DCPS and KIPPDC leadership teams. Mike started out teaching middle school on the South Side of Chicago, and spent five years in the Obama Administration at the U.S. Department of Education, first leading the strategic planning process to revitalize the Office for Civil Rights and then helping to start the Office of School Turnaround. He is also a community organizer, working on the Obama Campaigns in 2008 and 2012, and spent 2020 working for Michelle Obama’s voter mobilization organization When We All Vote on the 2020 election and runoffs in Georgia, which registered 500,000 voters, including 40,000 high school seniors. He lives in the Bloomingdale neighborhood of Washington, D.C. with his wife and daughter.
