Calvin Hooks

In 1994, Calvin Hooks relocated to Washington, D.C. to pursue his dream of attending Howard University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing. He went on to earn a master’s degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction and a doctorate in Education, Administrative Leadership for Teaching and Learning, from other institutions. Dr. Hooks has over 21 years of formal experience as an educator and school administrator, starting his career as a 4th grade teacher. He has served in a leadership capacity with the District of Columbia Public Schools for 9 years. He is currently in his 5th year as principal of Hyde-Addison Elementary School, in Georgetown, where he serves students from every ward in the district. In addition to his focus on whole child development, he continues to lead the charge around equity and anti-racism efforts. In 2022, Hyde-Addison ES was honored with a Standing Ovation Award for “Building the Bridgesfor Students and Families”. For 4 years prior, Dr. Hooks served as the Assistant Principal at C.W. Harris ES in Ward 7, where the school won two Standing Ovation Awards for Family Engagement. Dr. Hooks currently serves on the Mayor's Office of Racial Equity (ORE) second racial equity cohort and the DCPS Racial Equity Action Team (REAT). His personal leadership vision is that all students feel valued, nurtured and equipped with the skills necessary to become productive global citizens. He embraces his responsibility for student success and recognizes the significance of education in their lives.
