Alana Brown

Alana C. Brown is the founder and executive director of The Safe Sisters Circle.  Alana is a victims’ rights advocate and public interest attorney, focusing on  litigation and advocacy for survivors of domestic violence, sexual abuse, and  human sexual trafficking. As a native of the Washington, DC's area, Alana is deeply passionate about fighting for women's rights in her community. Prior to The Safe Sisters Circle, Alana practiced law at various domestic violence nonprofits followed by fellowships with a human trafficking organization and an international gender-based violence nongovernmental organization. During her work, she witnessed the problematic intersection of gender-based violence, race/ethnicity, and social economic status and its negative impact on Black women. This experience inspired her to create an organization that primarily focuses on the often overlooked, disadvantaged Black women's experiences regarding domestic violence and sexual abuse within the Washington, DC area. In 2020, Alana received DV LEAP’s 2020 Tip the Scales of Justice Award for making an impact in the domestic violence field in the Washington, DC area. Alana received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and B.A. in Africana Studies from New York University.

Alana Brown is Executive Director/Attorney for The Safe Sisters Circle.
